Club Dive 6

The SLSAC is organising a club dive at the Basses - Kirinda that includes travel + accommodation + board & diving. The intention is to reduce costs and enjoy relaxed diving & socialising.

Early confirmation is required to book a place. Please contact the dive officer or the secretary of the SLSAC to reserve your place the earliest.


Please note -

As the conditions are purely in the hands of the Sea Gods. On a good day, its easy diving. Other days can be tricky and experience is required.

  • Open Water (or equivalent) certification, with minimum of 10 dives post OW. AND
  • Individual equipment including SMB is compulsory. (You may hire and bring)

"An introduction to Sri Lanka’s sharks with special emphasis on their identification, ecology, natural history, relationship to divers and shark attacks in Sri Lanka" by Rex De Silva

Talk will start at 7.15 pm sharp so please do join us by 7.00 pm so you can order some drinks and bites and settle down in comfort. Please confirm attendance to the president or secretary of SLSAC.

Speaker Bio -

Rex Ian De Silva is a Sri Lankan Astronomer, Diver and Underwater Photographer, Field Biologist, Martial Arts Master and Writer. He has researched, and is a recognized authority on, sharks, marine life, seabirds and shorebirds (waders). He has a special interest in minor bodies of the Solar System (Oort Cloud, Asteroid and Kuiper Belts, Comets and Meteorites). To date he has published more than 100 scientific research papers, articles and book chapters.

He is now retired and lives with his wife in their home near the Bolgoda Lake, which is also base to "Seabird Watch (Sri Lanka)" and Astronomy Station "SXT 94"
