September Newsletter

Dear parents,

Your children are learning each day. They are writing, playing with the syllables and speaking more in Spanish.  We need to continue practicing  writing skills and to write the numbers from 1 to 25. 

Homework The first week of September I will begin to send homework.  The students will have homework from Monday to Thursday.  They need to sign the homework contract each  week.

• Spelling Every other week I will be sending a spelling list. They need to practice and read at home.  The second Friday I will be giving  a spelling test.

• Reading Every other week the students will take home a book (depending on their Spanish Reading Level) they need to read every night as their nightly reading assignment.  The book must be returned on Fridays.  (Otherwise parent’s will be responsible for the cost of the book) We need to teach our children to be responsible for their books and materials. 

• Math The students will have daily activities to take home.  We are using a new math program "Investigations”. I will send more information about how you can help your children at home.

English Class –Mrs. Rynkowski will be your children English Teacher.  This will help with our 90% Spanish Immersion Program.  The students will have also an extra hourper week during Technology Class  with emphasizing on Phonics and Reading. Morning snacks We have a long stretch until lunch and it will be very important for students to have a morning snack.  First grade will not be eating lunch until 11:45. A completely disposable container (ex. juice box) and one small food item are recommended. The children are very upset when they forget their snacks. Please help your child to check for their snacks each morning before they leave... 

Parent’s Volunteer Please return as soon as possible the Volunteer Form. This will give me an idea of how many parent’s are willing to help me in my classroom.  We still need two parents’ who can represent our class at the Family and Staff Organization (PTO).

“OPEN HOUSE” Will be Wednesday September 12, 2007.  Hope to see everybody there and share your childrens progress and expectations.
