El Cuerpo and Art

posted Nov 11, 2010 7:46 PM by Rebecca Gill Renken

Students have been learning body parts and using art and music to express these.  We have sang and danced to a rap to remember the body and even labeled our own monster-vocabulary sheet.  Picasso heads were also created in the computer lab, in which students copied to create some fabulaous chalk sketches inspired by Matisse.  All of this can be seen in the video below:

Mi Familia/My Family

We just completed studying the family and reading a story from our English literature books.  After practicing family vocabulary we conquered creating our own family trees and presenting these to the class.  Some choose to earn extra credit by not using notes, while others read from our first written paragraph.  Either way, they did a wonderful job!  Check them out by clicking below.

Get out of those seats!

posted Feb 4, 2010 8:24 PM by Rebecca Gill Renken

Imagine being any student and having to stay in a seat for fifty minutes for eight periods a day.  UGGGGH!  That sounds horrible.  I am a firm believer in getting all students to move around.  For instance, before testing over South America, students twice labeled a huge shower curtain with countries capitals and geographic features we have discussed.  Again, we did this and raced against one another for bragging purposes!

Now, we are off to numbers.  We practiced getting faster at saying these by passing a beach ball globe as fast as we can.  We are counting to 100 by five's and getting faster with better pronunciation each time.  It's by two's and ten's tomorrow.  Bingo, math problems, writing checks, and bartering are just around the corner.  As what your student can do!  You will be in awe.
