Officers

Meet the SPS Senators
There are five officers in the Cal Poly Society of Physics Students. We take care of h-bar, organize events, and maintain the behind the scene things for SPS. If you have any suggestions, questions, concerns, or insight please let us know at CalPolySPS@gmail.com

Chris Seck - SPS President

I'm a fifth and final year physics major and math minor at Cal Poly.  Before I entered high school outside Los Angeles, I knew I would be a scientist; I have a deep drive to understand what and how the world works, but also why the world is the way it is.  After a high school physics class, I knew what kind of scientist to be!  Throughout my undergrad experience at Cal Poly, I've been a part of several esperimental research groups dealing in multiple fields from condensed matter physics to optics and lasers.  All of the research experience has proven invaluable to furthering my career and has guided my decision to pursue graduate work.

You are welcome to contact me at cseck@calpoly.edu

Alison Goodsell - SPS VP

This is my 4th year as a physics major and math minor from Google-town (Mountain View, CA). I’ve had great experiences at Cal Poly, including never ending research opportunities provided by the physics department.  Just this past summer, I journeyed to Italy to work in a nuclear physics research lab doing awesome grunt labor!

The amazing professors, staff and fellow students have been a constant source of support. As a small, undergraduate-based department, the physics community provides tons of research and opportunities for getting involved! Please contact me
if you have any questions about the department. Also, stop by h-bar anytime!

Ethan Speakman - SPS Senator

I've been here long enough to get tenure (along with some of the other seniors). I've been working on a degree in physics because it was the most excited and interesting subject to me: what other subject offers you a chance to learn about something like length contraction and the poly effect? (OK the last one you're going to have to look up on your own). Getting out of high school I had no idea what I wanted to do, and on the eve of graduation...I still don't!  Well I should get to work on that...

P.S. I'm the guy sending out those annoying Friday Sports emails every week

Pedro Carvajal - SPS Senator

I am a second year physics major. I was born in Japan and grew up in both the land of the rising sun and the home of the Big Mac. Ever since I played Half Life, I knew I wanted to be a physicist. Jaaay Kaaay. (Just kidding for those who dont get the fancy PC jargon). I fell in love with the most amazing science ever in high school and after two years of making sweet mind love, I knew what I wanted to do. I honestly don't know at the moment what I want after I get my degree, but I am enjoying the physics experience and hope to continue it somehow once I graduate. If you ever need
someone to talk to for homework or just want to chat, look to h-bar! Open almost all the time during the day.

Love and Peace, have a good one, and I look foward to meeting more fellow physicists.
