Tuesday September 6, 2011

Hello Spring Valley Parents, Guardians, and Students,

Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year!  I am looking forward to seeing all of our returning families and meeting our new Spring Valley families.  We have a highly, qualified staff who are dedicated to providing the best education possible for your child.  Parents are their child’s “FIRST” teachers and we value your input so that your child’s educational experiences are enjoyable and consistent with State and District Standards.   The beginning of the 11/12 school year is quickly approaching and this letter contains pertinent information about the start of the school year.

If you are new to Spring Valley School, I want to extend a very warm welcome to our close-knit community.  Spring Valley is an exciting place to learn where staff, students, parents and community members work hard to create a positive environment.

During this past summer, our school campus has been under construction and the bathrooms are being fully renovated along with other improvements due to the passage of the bond, Measure X.   The most noticeable change will be freshly painted buildings.  Due to this construction, school staff will not be on campus until late August.  The best way to contact the office staff would be through email, vphayprasert@mesd.k12.ca.us.  We appreciate your patience and understanding during the month of August as we unpack and get settled in the office.

The P.T.A will kick-off its annual membership drive in the weeks to come.  Please take time to fill out the form and return it to your child’s classroom teacher.  The amazing Spring Valley P.T.A has supported our school by providing student enrichment programs, current technology, reading books, field trips, teacher support, and much more! This past year, we were able to enhance our classrooms with three additional Smart Boards and four lap top computers.

This school year, we have experienced an increase in enrollment and due to the impact; there are rare cases that students may not be placed at their home schools. Know that it is our district’s priority to place all students at their home schools.  With that said, high enrollment at all school sites will highly impact classrooms and that placement may be adjusted after the opening of school.

I look forward in continuing to move our school from “Great to Exemplary” together.  Please do not hesitate to call me with any questions.  My door is always open and I welcome your input.  The staff and I look forward to the beginning of the school with excitement and continued commitment to providing the best education for your children.

Lastly, in an effort to “Going Green”, please refer to our website:  www.millbraeschooldistrict.org/springvalley for announcements and to sign up for our electronic mailing list by sending an email to List-SpringValleyNew@mesd.k12.ca.us.  Type the word "subscribe" (without the quotes) as the subject.  This will add your email to our mailing list for that school.  Those of you that are currently receiving e-notices will not need to sign up again.  Additionally, the Millbrae School District website will contain important forms for you to fill out and return on the first day of school.  If you are unable to print these forms, hardcopies will be available on the first day of school.

I hope you enjoy the last few weeks of summer and we look forward to another successful school year where we will move from “Great to Exemplary” together.
