Athletic Training Program and Therapeutic Associates, Inc. (TAI)

Each Salem-Keizer School District (SKSD) high school has one Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) on site. This person works closely with the school’s student-athletes and teams to assist in injury prevention, evaluation, and rehabilitation. This individual also covers the majority of school sponsored sporting events including practices and games. Valley Physical Therapy, Therapeutic Associates, Inc. (TAI), is proud to provide athletic training services and sports injury management for the SKSD. Our commitment to the success of this program includes support to the ATC professional staff, coaches, student athletes, and the medical community. The program is in McKay, McNary, North Salem, South Salem, Sprague, and West Salem High Schools. Injured student-athletes at supported schools can check in with the school athletic trainer (AT) as needed for injury care. If necessary, the AT will coordinate with our PT clinics for physical therapy to ensure a speedy and complete return to sport.

THIS PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN SKSD AND TAI PROVIDES:
  • Up to three physical therapy treatment sessions at no cost at a TAI clinic. No doctor referral is required for this service.
  • Coordination of access to a physician if the student-athlete does not currently have a family doctor.
  • Coordination of benefits for extended care if the student-athlete's need exceeds 3 sessions.
  • Facilitation of communication between ATC, physical therapists, coaches, and athletic directors regarding student-athletes' plan of care and game ready status.
LISTED BELOW ARE THE PROGRAMS OFFERED AND SUPPORTED THROUGH TAI & THE ATHLETIC TRAINERS:

  • PEP (Prevent Injury, Enhance Performance) -- This is an ACL injury prevention program, highlighted just recently in Training and Conditioning. All Salem-Keizer School District (SKSD) coaches have been given information on this program for the past 3 years and have also been offered to have a highly qualified AT come to their school and test their athletes and/or run them through the program. • Concussion Program -- The AT program has a unified return to play guideline under the guidance of Dr. Koester (Slocum Sports out of Eugene). Best, most comprehensive distict coverage in the state. Sprague uses ImPACT (computerized concussion assessment tool) for its concussion management.
  • PTAT Program -- Designed by a well respected PT (Jeff Blanchard), this program utilizes ATs to assist patients after they have completed PT, but are still wanting additional conditioning. ATs work with the patient at the clinic or at the patients home. Referrals for this program can come from sources outside of TAI. Through this program, ATs can also assist with sports specific conditioning and pre-season conditioning (ie. skiing).
  • SAM (Speed/Agility/Mobility) Program -- For the first time EVER, the AT program will run this comprehensive program designed to develop the total athlete. Biomechanical and injury assessment, the PEP principles and SPARQ (NIKE) testing are included....as well as a Sporthill T-shirt. Scholarships are offered. See your schools AT for information.
  • Reduced cost physicals -- The ATs offer sports physicals to athletes at $35 (last year's price) every August. We rely on volunteer doctors to assit with this program, and we serve a large number of local athletes every year. Student athletes on the free/reduced lunch program are given the physical at a free/reduced charge.

Valley Physical Therapy's three clinics have served the residents of Marion County since 1983, with patients receiving excellent care in a “family friendly” environment. Valley Keizer and Valley South are located in the premier Courthouse Athletic Clubs, offering patients access to top quality athletic and exercise equipment in up to 40,000 sq. feet of gym space. Dedicated and skilled therapists maintain a strong emphasis on manual therapy and continuing education to ensure patients always receive the highest level of care. Considered the region's Sports Medicine authorities, our diverse clinical staff offers many options and a wide range of treatment specialties for all aspects of musculoskeletal injuries. We strive to educate patients to be their own advocate for health and body awareness, and guide them back to the highest level of performance and fitness possible. Valley PT clinics believe strongly in giving back to the communities they serve, and are heavily involved in providing medical support to local Salem-Keizer high school athletes.
