Welcome to The Official Spital Bowls & Tennis Club Website
The Spital Bowling and Tennis Club, founded in 1920 and situated on
the North East side of Tamworth, Staffordshire, still continues to play
on the original site. There have been a few changes throughout the
years, with modern facilities and updates having taken place as
recently as the last couple of years.
The Club is open to all genders and all ages wishing to partake of the wonderful facilities the Club has to offer.
As you can see from the Club title there are two sections to the club and you can join either or both of the Bowling and Tennis sections, or just the Social Section and attend the social activities including Table Tennis.
In
addition to the Bowling and Tennis there is a Table Tennis group and
they currently meet on a Wednesday morning at around 10:30am.
During
the Bowling closed season we have a Social section where we meet on
Thursday afternoons from 2pm - 4pm or so, and play various games and
generally have a social gathering where we can all keep in touch with
"what's going on". There are also additional afternoons of table tennis, Tuesdays and Fridays, during the closed Bowling season.
Prospective members are welcome at the club - just introduce yourselves
to any adult member who will then attempt to guide you to the relevant
person to help you achieve your goal of membership or maybe coming
initially as a guest to see "if it's for you" or not.
Bowling
starts at 2:30pm every day of the season, starting in April and running
through to October, date TBA, when it closes until the following
season. We like people to be there at 2:15pm so that the names can be
drawn for the teams to start at 2:30pm. The afternoon session usually
terminates around 4:45pm with a 15min tea break around 3:30pm and there are evening sessions starting around
6pm, light permitting.
Tennis tends to start around 6pm on
weekdays and approx 2:30pm in the afternoons at weekends - see relevant
sections for more details.
There is a Visitor's fee of £3 per attendance and a limited number of times you can attend as a guest.
If you can't make it in person
and would like more information, click on the 'List of Contacts'
and then you can phone or write accordingly. To experience the "atmosphere of
the club" try turning up on the day! We don't bite!
Our
fees, which can be found on the application form, are very reasonable
as I'm sure you'll see for yourselves. Click on the Application form to open in your pdf viewer and then print it out, or right click and save it to your computer, fill it
in and send it to the relevant Membership Secretary along with your
subscription.
We are a great bunch of people and offer a warm welcome to all visitors, be they novices or experienced players!
If
you like club or interclub competitions/friendlies, then we also have a
number of these running, and details can be found by looking at the
various sections.
