Bird Watching

We love that the red-winged Blackbirds are nesting in the cattails again this year. And the colorful Acorn Woodpeckers as well as Flickers are everywhere. Last night we saw the Osprey dive successfully for dinner. And we've had the pleasure of watching a family of western Blue Birds splash around in the bird bath in the garden, too sweet!

Not uncommon here are also Night Heron and Green Heron, of course with the lake lots of Ducks, especially Mallards and Merganser.
You don't even have to go down to the lake, just relax in a comfy chair on the back deck with a cool drink and watch a variety of Hummingbirds, Finches, Robins  and more.

If you still need to be convinced, just know that Spirit Lake is less than a ten minute drive from Anderson Marsh where the annual Blue Heron Festival is held every April. I hike there often and have seen wild Pheasant in the summer and Bald Eagle in the winter and spring. There are an extensive variety of Ducks and I even saw a pair of  huge magnificent White Pelicans.  And all of this only a couple of hours from the San Francisco Bay Area, up through the beautiful wine country
.

a Screeching Owl and it loves
to be admired....
