What is SEED?

Special Education Enrichment and Development Foundation

SEED is a newly formed nonprofit organization run by volunteers to benefit students with special needs in the Lafayette School District. SEED is currently considering strategies to support a wide range of proposals that could support and enrich the education of special needs students in the Lafayette School District. SEED intends to raise funds predominantly through applications for grants from private foundations and public entities that provide grants. SEED will also sponsor community-based fund raising events to help build a support community for our parents with special needs children.

New Special Needs/Learning Differences Books at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center

We are very pleased to let you know that since SPSK met with Susan Weaver, Senior Community Library Manager at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center, Susan has been busy purchasing books specifically recommended by our parents! The books are located on their own special shelving unit outside the Homework Center. Next time you're at the Library, please check them out.

Lending Libraries for Books and OT items at Burton Valley Elementary

We have two lending libraries available to our parents at BVE. The first is our Parent Resource Library- a special cart full of books, DVDs and videos available for check out on various subjects (ADD/ADHD, autism, dyslexia etc.) located in the back room (where the laminating machine is) at the BVE Library. If you have books you'd like to donate to the Parent Resource Library, please give them to our Librarian, Linda Bochte, and she will kindly log them into the system for us.

We also have a new lending box of OT items available for check out by parents. The OT box is available in the front office, under the bench (just ask Marsha). It's full of squishy balls, weighted lap belts, pencil grips and more. OT items can be costly, so why not try something out from our box and make sure it works for your child before purchasing it? We would love some more OT items to be donated to our box, so if you have something at home you are not longer using, please drop it in the box!
