What is SEED?

Special Education Enrichment and Development Foundation

SEED is a newly formed nonprofit organization run by volunteers to benefit students with special needs in the Lafayette School District. SEED is currently considering strategies to support a wide range of proposals that could support and enrich the education of special needs students in the Lafayette School District. SEED intends to raise funds predominantly through applications for grants from private foundations and public entities that provide grants. SEED will also sponsor community-based fund raising events to help build a support community for our parents with special needs children.

Please consider volunteering your time. We have positions both large and small- and it's all important work! To learn more, contact us at

Welcome

Lafayette Special Parents for Special Kids (SPSK)

We are parents of children with special needs and/or learning differences who reside in the Lafayette School District and came together to form a support, education and advocacy group.  Our mission is to share knowledge, resources and skills with fellow Lafayette parents whose lives are touched by special needs so that we all can benefit and learn from each others' experiences.  We're on Facebook at: SPSK and Early Intervention Parent Group!

Background

Our group usually meets once every other month during the school year.  Click on Upcoming Events,  for meeting dates.  We try to alternate meetings between days and evenings so that parents who work outside the home may join us.  We discuss: our kids, learning environments, IEPs, therapies, resources and other support services.  We try to have a guest speaker once per quarter.

Our group is comprised of Lafayette parents of preschoolers, elementary and middle school students.  We have parent mentors at each school location.

Between our members, we have so much encouragement and information to share- please join us!

If you would like to host a meeting or have a suggestion for a guest speaker, please let us know.

Our Site

Our site was created and is maintained by our parent members.  It's a work in progress and we are always adding new information.  Our fonts may not always match but we have many valuable resources to share here!

You will find information on and links to support and information groups and forums, on line newsletters, legal assistance, recommended activities, therapists and tutors in the Lafayette area, contact info for Lafayette mentor parents, recommended books and tools such as creating social stories for your children.
