Welcome Is this you?
Well, maybe you've found the solution - SPFLite.
It won't be everything ISPF/PDF was, (it is called Lite!) but it will surprise you with its flexibility, ability to be customized and additional commands and editing concepts to enhance your ability to 'get the job done'. SPFLite has been continually developed and enhanced far beyond its humble beginnings. It's no "Lite" weight any more! And it's about time the web site acknowledges the immense contribution to the 5.0 and 6.0 releases of Robert Hodge. The vast majority of the new SPFLite 'bells and whistles' are from his imaginative mind. He gets to dream up some truly wonderful concepts and I get the hard work of turning them into reality. But I get even - he gets to do lots of testing and (ugh) documentation. Somehow between us I think we've managed to produce a pretty amazing editor.
(Thanks, George. Over the last couple of years I have gone from a semi-interested occasional user to being integrally involved assisting George in his day-to-day development activities for SPFLite. I'm very grateful he has allowed me to have such an influence on his work. I was a long-time ISPF user on mainframes, heavily involved in Tritus SPF, and to say I "love" SPF editors would be an understatement. So in every sense of the word, SPFLite has been a labor of love (that's "labour", Geoge), and we hope that it shows in this release. But don't let him fool you. SPFLite 5.0 and now 6.0 have the best documentation it's ever had - which is a good thing, considering how much has been added. George and I face the usual struggles of two people passionate about making a great technology live up to its potential. Rest assured, it really was developed after the design and documentation. I don't mind a bit doing that part - no 'ugh' at all. I also have insidious ways of finding bugs that make George wince - and makes this a better product in the process. And about the name "Lite" ... SPFLite 6.0's feature set is - in all the ways that really matter - more than competitive with any SPF-style editor ever available on a PC. We had used the number 5.1 during development, and for a time on this web site, but it really deserves to be given a full version upgrade rather than a "point release" because of the number of major new features included. I was really tempted to call this version "SPF Heavy", but it's George's program and he picked the name first - so he gets his way -- RH)
Please try it out and let us know what you think. Regardless of whether you end up using it, or whether you register or not, we welcome all your comments, good and bad.
