Review of notes from last meeting. Gary P reported that pursuant to last meeting he had obtained costs from Ann Blair for re-engineering tables to be similar to Port Townsend, near the school. Also about moving table now near Hansville Repair nearer to Post Office. She said Jeff Shea would supply the requested information. Shea said the other committee had asked for the same or similar information. Gary told him of tables in Bellevue, made of asphalt, that are more comfortable – Shea knows the person in Bellevue who was responsible for the installation of those and will get information about that process. Jeff Shea said he expected to have costs available next week. Gary expects to hear from him. The subject of lighting or putting crosswalks on top of tables was not discussed. The crosswalks could be suggested if and when the tables are re-built.
Ed mentioned that one reason for problems with the tables may be that they were poorly constructed. It was agreed that if the tables were re-engineered and of better quality they might be acceptable to more people.
Ed had talked with Ann Blair re getting info from Public Works and she said that would come later. He also asked her to clarify our objective to which she replied that we were to make suggestions for enhancing the tables for presentation at a meeting with the other 2 committees, Steve Bauer and herself. At that time compromises may be discussed. That meeting is set for December 3.
There was discussion and agreement that the tables should be better marked, with reflective paint or tape or otherwise. That was considered secondary to getting better tables.
Gary P suggested that Jeff Shea be included in the December 3 meeting in order to be able to get answers to cost/engineering ideas that may come up in that meeting.
There was discussion of being willing to re-address the issue of tables if in the future there is improved law enforcement to better control speeding. Gary P suggests that we include this statement as part of our position to show willingness to find alternatives.
Ed recommended that we prioritize our objectives as guidance for him in the Dec 3 meeting.
Re-evaluate existing tables and re-engineer where appropriate:
Move Hansville Road table north, closer to the Post Office with added crosswalk
Mark all tables clearly
Make all tables uniform
Tables should be designed to allow passage at the posted speed limit and inhibit passage at higher speeds.
