This is a view of the WMU Speech Physiology Laboratory. The laboratory
is approximately 600 square feet. It contains a wide range of
instrumentation for the study of speech motor behavior as well as a number of PC workstations for data processing and analysis. The centerpiece of the laboratory is a 12 channel Carstens AG200 Articulograph. This instrument allows high fidelity movement recording of lips, jaw and tongue during speech, swallowing and other oral behaviors. We have used this technology to acquire a large database of normally fluent adult speakers and adults persons who stutter. The laboratory has a 16 channel data acquistion system that allows for the synchronous recording of a wide range of physiologic signals. We have a wide range of instrumentation for recording speech and voice acoustics, chest wall movement (Respitrace), muscle activation patterns (EMG), speech-related oral flow and pressure, and laryngeal activity (EGG). |
