Food Provided for Children and Adults

Backpacks for School Children

The members of Valley View UMC are providing backpacks with imperishable food each week during the school year for elementary children who would have no food to eat on the weekends.

These backpacks go to students in schools in the communities of Hernandez, San Juan, and Chimayo. Various family conditions have created the need for helping these children have food during the weekends. The school lunch programs provide meals during the school week.

This new school year we will be starting with 22 backpacks a week. This program has been a great success because of all the help from the members of Valley View UMC.

If you would like to contribute to the backpack ministry, please bring individual servings of:

  • Canned meat
  • Granola bars
  • Breakfast bars
  • Juice
  • Water
  • Fruit
  • Chips
  • Cookies
  • Trail mix
  • Cereal
  • Peanuts
  • Crackers
  • Apple sauce
