Educational History:

’74, William Paterson State College, Bachelor of Arts degree, major in
Special Education and minor in Elementary Education

’79, University of Vermont, Master of Education

I have been employed as a special educator by the Saint Albans Town School system since 1979. At that time I was responsible for providing direct instruction to students and supervising paraeducators for grades one through eight.  As the town grew and more staff was hired to meet the demands of a growing community my assignment changed.

My first teaching experience as a special educator was in Newark, New Jersey. I was hired as a long-term substitute teacher to finish out the last month of school. I can honestly say that being raised in Paterson, New Jersey and serving in the United States Marine Corp prepared me more for that assignment than graduating from a small teachers’ college.

The following summer I worked at a camp in Rinebeck, New York with muscular dystrophy patients (campers). Their ages ranged from ten years old to adulthood. The campers rotated throughout the summer by age groups. I supervised teenage volunteers who were assigned to each camper and developed activities (archery, target practice, boating, fishing).

Following my camp experience I worked for three and a half years as a special educator at the New Genesis School in rural Blairstown, New Jersey, a privately owned regional school for students with special needs.   After three and a half years in Blairstown, this city mouse morphed into a country mouse and moved with my wife to Franklin County.

In my spare time I enjoy dinning out with friends, deer camp activities, canoeing, hunting/fishing, growing veggies, nurturing my raspberries/blueberries and long walks with my 140-pound dog Sumo on the back 10 acres.
