 Special Camps (established in 1995), challenges intellectually disabled kids and adults to new activities, increasing independence and self-esteem in loving, all volunteer, overnight camps. Where? Special Camps rents the White Pines Dude Ranch in Oregon, IL, (1/2 hour West of DeKalb, IL). Campers Enjoy horseback riding and grooming, swimming, archery, sports, crafts, music, digging for “gold”. Parties every night included hayrides, dances, dancing with Blooze Brothers, bingo, campfire songs, s’mores, line dancing and more!
More than a camp experience... Special Camps provides a uniquely safe, prejudice free environment where special needs campers and teen camp counselors play side-by-side, both growing in self-esteem and independence while participating in new activities tailored to the individual abilities of the campers.
