4. What do I need to know about SGC 2009 ?

You can find a preliminary timetable of SGC events already on this webpage here (PDF). More info on the specific session contents as well as organization is found here: Sessions as well as discussed in the forums.

You should plan to arrive in Daejeon on 7 October, when we will have a welcome evening to all delegates and staff prior to the actual meeting days of 8-10 October.

The dress code for SGC is mostly casual or business casual, however we expect formal business clothing or your local national costume for the final closing dinner. For those attending IAC, formal business clothing is mostly expected at IAC day and evening events.
Also, when taking a look at our draft programme, you will notice a cultural night on the second day. At this event, we invite every delegate to share some of his cultural experiences and peculiarities with everybody. To make it an enriching and fun activity, please consider bringing some typical national or cultural item, clothing, music, or similar for the night.

Other than that, there is no specific packing list, but here are some things you might want to take:
  • Passport and Tourist VISA (if required)
  • Traveler’s checks/cheques, Visa/Mastercard and enough cash, keep them in separate places.
  • A laptop computer for SGC work (if you have one).
  • An electrical adapter to change voltage for any appliances brought overseas (check here for info on electricity in Korea)
  • Recharging batteries for digital cameras, etc.
  • Modest fall clothing (check here for temperatures in Korea).
Girls, try to avoid low cut tops and tops that display your shoulders/collarbone if possible.
  • Any medicine, and aspirin or Tylenol, or similar you might need to maintain your health.
  • A light shoulder bag or backpack to carry your things on SGC days
  • A good alarm clock, watch, and calculator, which is great for figuring currency exchange rates on prices.
  • Don’t forget your finger nail clippers, and any other small toiletries that you like, such as soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, and razor & blades, or hair shampoo, yet many of these are readily available in Korea if you forget or run out.
  • Other helpful items: A. How to get to Daejeon info, B. Guidebook, C. Maps, D. Itinerary of places I’m considering visiting, E. Notebook, F. Personal Business Card, G. Some plastic bags for storage or separating dirty clothes, and H. a towel.

What NOT to take:

 Fresh fruits

 Vegetables

 Walnuts

 Plants in soil

A map of Daejeon with the major locations of SGC, IAC and related institutions is shown here:

Please note: SGAC does not assume any liability for attendees safety during any part of SGC or associated events. Participation in SGC is entirely at the participant's own risk.

5. Where and how can I connect to other delegates and the organizers ?

Explicitely for the purpose to introduce ourselves, to discuss SGC organization and work planning, and to simply exchange information on our interests and travel planning, we have created a set of discussion forums you will be free to use as a registered user to the SGAC site. Simply go to www.spacegeneration.org/forum/411

Check these forums together with the SGC website regularly for latest news and updates.

6. How do I get to Korea ?

All visitors to the Republic of Korea must have a valid passport and visa. However, visitors with roundtrip tickets from countries that have special agreements with Korea or are part of the visa waiver programme may be exempted from the visa requirement. These visitors are generally granted stays in Korea for up to 30 or 90 days, depending on the agreement. Click here (IAC link) for a list of countries that do not need a visa. Further info can also be found at the Hi-Korea site, while the Ministry website lists all Korean embassies overseas.

Most likely you will enter Korea through Incheon International Airport in Incheon (west of Seoul). Please don't be confused - it's not Seoul, even though it is listed as such, Incheon city is some distance away from Seoul city. This website has an interactive map with travel times to Korea from various regions worldwide, plus more info on Korea's international airports.
Here you can also find a nice map of the Republic of Korea to plan your trip to Daejoen as well as to other destination in the country.

NOTE: If you are participating in IAC also and have paid your registration for this, they will pay for the bus fare if you let them know your flight arrival times (you will see this when registering for the IAC YP or Student program). See here.

The Limousine Bus is only KRW 14,800/22,200(deluxe) (about 8euro/11euro) from the airport and leaves at these timesOur local friends have also put together for you a great and detailed description on how to get to Daejeon from Incheon airport. Check out the attachment below!

7. What else should I know about Korea ?

Our dear staff member Andgie has put together a fabulous summary of things to know about Korea, so please check this at:
Further Information can also be found on the IAC website here (IAC link) together with a short phonetic dictionary.
