SOUTH Yorkshire CLASSICAL GUITAR SOCIETY

HISTORY:

Formed by a group of friends and like-minded classical guitarists, we started meeting at each others’ houses. As the need for space grew we started booking halls and finally moved to our present venue in Sheffield in 2004.

AIMS

Our aim is quite simple - we love playing guitar. The main focus is the classical guitar but not to the exclusion of lute, or electric, acoustic and bass or even the occasional synth guitar.

WHO CAN JOIN?

The playing standard is good (mostly) - from intermediate up to professional standard - and we have helped each other to improve over the years. There is no fixed entry requirement except new members will need to be able to sight read. For those familiar with music examinations then a playing standard of about Grade 5 (or better) with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools Of Music or Trinity Guildhall. However, we do not insist upon everyone passing the exams.
