This easy and well maintained 40 mile UTV, ATV and Off Road
loop trail near Florence Junction, Arizona travels through some of the most scenic Lower Sonoron Desert Landscape to the top of 5500 foot Montana Mountain with loads of Pinon Pine Trees and long distance views of Phoenix and the surrounding Superstition Mountains. Heading down from the mountain are some of the most fun and twisty switchbacks as you wind your way back down to the desert floor. Simply stated the entire ride is breathtaking.
Staging for the UTV, ATV and Off Road
loop trail begins on Hewitt Station Road approximately a 1/4 of a mile East from the intersection of North Queen Valley Road. Follow Hewitt Station Road East for approximately 3 miles, make a left and cross the wash. The trail leads North through unbelievable mountains and canyons. Be sure to have your camera ready. At approximately mile 12 the trail forks, make a right and start the ascent up to the top of 5500 foot Montana Mountain. The trail meanders through the pine trees and offers lots of viewing vistas, lunch and picture spots.
Heading around the mountain, UTV, ATV and Off Road the trail does narrow a bit so just take your time and be careful. The views are worth the extra time anyway.
Heading down the twisty switchback section and down to the desert, at approximately mile 24.5 be sure to make a right (south). Following the trail back through the desert to approximately mile 31 and the Happy Camp Road intersection, Make a right and follow Happy Camp Road and cross the railroad tracks. Make a right onto Hewitt Station Road and back to the staging area.
Give yourself at least 4-5 hours for the round trip.
Directions: From
Phoenix, take Route 60 East towards Florence Junction to North Queen Valley Road. North Queen Valley Road is approximately 2 miles East of the junction of Route 60 and Route 79.
Follow North Queen Valley Road approximately 2 miles to Hewitt Junction Road. Make a right on Hewitt Junction Road to the staging area approximately 1/4 of a mile on the right.
Staging: There is a large staging area. There are no facilities.
Fees. This is AZ State Trust Land. An OHV License Plate Sticker or a State Trust Land Permit is Required. A hunting license will suffice if you are actively hunting. The UTV, ATV and Off Road trail is also considered a road so you technically should be street legal.
