'South West Inventors' is a private members club for those interested in inventing. Its main aim is to provide an information exchange and confidential discussion forum for inventors and ’would be’ inventors. The club meets at 8 PM on the third Wednesday of each month (not Jan 2010) at the Yeovil Sports and Social Club address - Johnson Park (just off the Tintinhull Rd on the NW edge of town). There is a reasonably priced bar and good meeting room. At meetings all members sign a Non-Disclosure agreement and are free to discuss their ideas/projects and seek views on commercial viability and advice on matters such as:Patent, Registered Design, Copyright and other forms of protection. Design improvement and Prototyping. Market Research. Routes to Market. Finding a Development Champion. Some meetings are given over to guest speakers from Universities and other organisations who nurture innovation. The club maintains a members Skills Register and a framework to facilitate co-operation between members to incubate innovation projects. The club also lobbies local organisations to improve the support to inventors and has an ad-hoc support arrangement with Business Link Somerset. Many club members have been granted patents, won invention awards and commercialised their products and are keen to offer advice to those yet to succeed. Membership is £25 per annum. Guests may attend for £2 per meeting (up to 4 meetings after which they must take out annual membership). Please pay all fees to the Treasurer. (see contacts page). Club members also meet up at The Stone Masons Illminster (nice newish pub on western edge) on the second Wed in the month to promote club membership. http://www.marstonsinnsandtaverns.co.uk/Home/PlacestoEatandDrink/OurPubs/Stonemasons
