NEEDED IN THE 2011-2012 SCHOOL YEAR! Volunteer and be a part of student success: Family involvement improves student success, regardless of race/ethnicity, social economics, or parent’s level of education. Research shows that family involvement promotes student success. Students with involved parents are more likely to: · Earn higher grades and pass their classes · Attend school regularly & have better social skills · Go on to postsecondary education When families, schools, and communities work together (National PTA): · Student achievement improves · Teacher morale rises · Communication increases · Family, school & community connections multiply
Some Volunteer Opportunities at South Shore: · Before School Homework Club Tues-Fri 8:00-9:00am HELP IS DESPERATELY NEEDED from 8:00am-9:00am for: A free homework club offered daily from 8:20am-8:50am. (Homework club will be broken up by grade level for K-8th grade students.) · Middle school zero hour/before-school academic support in math and reading on Monday and Tuesdays of each week. · ASC (After-school club) or OST (out of school time) Variety of opportunities! · Library restocking books (create your schedule, idea for parents who come early to pick up their student with 15-30 minutes to spare. · 3-4 People to Level Books (volunteers will be trained) A large order of books arriving soon! · Math Challenge Board: only one hour per month and could be done any time that suits the person - a perfect job for a parent who can't get in during the school day.
