Proprietors of the Franklin House hosted visitors to Athens, Georgia from the late 1840's until the end of the Civil War. A daguerreotype studio, occupied by Samuel Broadbent, was located on the top floor where skylights were used for the exposure. The Athens Hardware Company occupied the three-story brick structure until 1972. This photograph, taken by Levon Register II in March 1999, is a half plate daguerreotype.

Dreamscape
This was to be a nice tinted peach orchard landscape. Things don't always come out as we would wish. Rather than being intimidated by this slight set back, I begin to think of it as a canvas and what I could do to enhance the mood, a dream like feeling. The result is this quarter plate, hand tinted image and brushed stroked plate, originally taken in April of 1998 and expanded upon in March of 1999, and May of 2004.
