Are you frustrated with existing options for monitoring your students' progress in algebra? This Algebra Progress Monitoring training will introduce four new options for tracking students' progress. You will learn how to administer and score these measures, as well as how to interpret the data from the measures.

Objectives

·        To develop/expand one’s understanding of progress monitoring

·        To be able to administer, score, and use data from the algebra progress monitoring measures

·        To develop a general understanding of the empirical evidence supporting each of the measures

·        To develop a plan for using one or more of the measures

This training is appropriate for anyone teaching pre-algebra or algebra skills to struggling learners.  Teachers will receive a copy of the measures and a spread sheet program for easy collection of progress monitoring data.   The measures can be used as a quick warm-up activity and provide valuable data about the skill level of your students.

Moving on Up!  Three Rivers Regional Transition Council

Date:                         December 11, 2009

Time:                        10:00am to 12:00pm

Location:                 Tattnall County Board of Education

A regional transition council is a group of individuals from a multi-county region who meet to address the transition of individuals with disabilities from high school to employment, post secondary education, and or independent living. The council is comprised of a cross-section of the community, including individuals with disabilities, their families, employers, educators and agency representatives.  All council members have an equal voice and a proportionate responsibility for the work of the council. Councils take on projects to facilitate the transition of individuals with disabilities in their area. Regional projects are found to be more successful and to benefit a larger number of individuals with disabilities than would local projects. Both the composition of the council and the projects the council undertakes are unique to the area in which the council is located. The work of a regional transition council benefits not only individuals with disabilities and their families, but employers through providing a diverse work force, and the community through the addition of productive citizens to the tax rolls.   For more information please contact Alex Jordan:  drajordan@bellsouth.net

This workshop provides a positive conceptualization of specialized interests (also specialized interests, obsessions, and circumscribed interests) for individuals on the autism spectrum. No longer should it be thought to be a hindrance to have a restricted interest. Restricted interests may be used to improve all areas of life for individuals with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD).  In this workshop, case examples will be used to demonstrate how to use restricted interests and preferences with individuals on the autism spectrum from infants and toddlers to adolescents and college students. Emphasis will be placed on using the restricted interests to improve academics, communication, and social interaction. In addition, the participants will leave with the knowledge and skill set to use restricted interests in planning for transitions, careers, and college/ post secondary work for individuals with ASD. All practitioners involved in the life of individuals with ASD will find this workshop a refreshing approach to working with this population.  For more information about Dr. Mancil and his work please click:
