National PTA Partnering to Fight the Flu!

You recently received a mailing from Novartis about Flu Vaccinations and your PTA Sponsoring a Clinic.

NYS PTA has looked into this Campaign and offers the following:

Vaccinations will cost $30 each, with $4.00 going to the unit, $1.00 to NYS PTA and a portion to National PTA.  Novartis will bill Medicare and Medicaid, other insurances - you will have to check with them.  This is a fundraiser for your unit.

Novartis will give a certificate of insurance to each unit sponsoring a clinic totally indemnifying that unit (however, this does not hold true to the School District).

The vaccinations are mercury free and high quality.

It is the feeling of the State PTA leaders that most school boards will not buy into this.

While NYS PTA will not tell you weather or not to participate, they offer the following statement:

National PTA Partnering to Fight the Flu!

NYS PTA joins National PTA in its campaign to eduate - motivate - vaccinate against the flu.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is recommending that all children aged 6 months through 18 years get vaccinated against influenza.  THe program provides local schools with educational materials and resources to conduct on-site school influenza (flu) vaccinations clinics to help protect children and their famIIies from contracting this potentially deadly virus.  All units were sent informational material about the program.  NYS PTA has been assured that units will be indemnified if they decide to sponsor a clinic to whatever degree they choose.  Whether participating in this partnership or not, every unit will hopefully be supporting this effort in some way.  If you have questions contact Mary Ward, Health and Wellness Chair, at health.wellness@nyspta.org.  You can find additional information at www.pta.org and/or sign up for a clinic at that site.  THE SINGLE BEST WAY TO PREVENT INFLUENZA IS TO GET AN INFLUEZNA VACCINATION EACH YEAR.
