Mizen to Malin 2011

Our Chairman, Pat Gleeson, is organising a charity cycle on the June bank holiday weekend (3rd-6th June 2011) across the length of Ireland from Mizen Head to Malin Head. Proceeds from the cycle will go to the 'Children in Hospital Ireland' (CHI) charity, see www.childreninhospital.ie for details of this worthwhile cause.

The provisional route is as follows:
 
Day 1 - Friday 3rd June 2011
Distance 152km (95 miles). Early start from Mizen Head, heading via Bantry and Glengarriff before climbing over the beautiful Caha Pass. Descend through Kenmare and then another climb to Moll's Gap in the Killarney National Park. Onward through Killarney and Farranfore to the finish in Tralee.
 
Day 2 - Saturday 4th June 2011
Distance 153km (96 miles). Begins with a steady climb out of Tralee to Listowel, then to the shores of the Shannon Estuary and a ferry from Tarbet to Killimer. Spin up the Atlantic coast of Co. Clare, via Kilrush, Lahinch and the Cliffs of Moher, then to Ballyvaughan and finishing in Kinvara.
 
Day 3 - Sunday 5th June 2011
Distance 180 km (113 miles). Leaving Kinvara, heading through Oranmore, Claregalway, Tuam and Claremorris before passing Knock shrine. Then via Charlestown, Tubbercurry, Collooney and Sligo before the finish in the idyllic fishing village of Mullaghmore.
 
Day 4 - Monday 6th June 2011
Distance 165km (103 miles). Depart Mullaghmore for Bundoran, Ballyshannon and Dongeal town before the long climb over the Barnesmore Gap. Then to Ballybofey, by-passing Letterkenny, through Buncrana and Malin village and finally on to the finish line at Malin Head.
