Welcome to my homepage!
My name is Soundarya Chidambaram and I am a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Political Science at The Ohio State University. I study comparative politics, with specialization in the politics of India. My research interests include: ethnic politics and ethnic conflict, non-governmental organizations in India, particularly the way they operate in the educational sector through Public-Private partnerships. In addition to my work in Political Science, I also have a Graduate Minor in Statistical Data Analysis from the Department of Statistics, The Ohio State University. My dissertation research focuses on the sub-regional variation in the support for right wing political outfits across Indian states. Specifically, I focus on the impact of political decentralization to local level government on the provision of public goods and services and its concomitant effect on levels of citizen support for "welfarist" right wing organizations providing similar services. From June through December 2009, I will be in India (Bangalore and Chennai) for my doctoral field research.
