Hey fans! This past Saturday, Soul Kitchen performed for the Washtenaw County Sheriff's retirement/birthday party. It was an absolute blast! We'd like to thank Ron Schebil and his friends and family for having us for this special occasion. Ron even came on stage to rock the cow bell and play some harmonica. MORE COW BELL, Ron!
Soul Kitchen has a number of upcoming gigs at the same location as Ron's party (North Cape Yacht Club). Check out our Calendar for details. We're booking more performances every day, so come back and check the page often for updates. We'll do our best to post information here as well as on our email list, which you can subscribe to at the top of our Announcements page.
If you're interested in having Soul Kitchen perform at your public or private event, you can email Al. Thanks again and have a wonderful week!

Come back and check it often to see the latest updates including an event calendar, photo gallery, band members' personal bio pages, and so much more that we can't even list it all. We have a lot of plans and ideas for the future of the new Soul Kitchen band. Expect to see more frequent updates to this announcement list as we get the ball rolling in 2010!

We're sad to report that on July 25, Sue Nordman informed us that she won't be able to continue on with Soul Kitchen. Her other commitments and personal circumstances just weren't going to permit her to make the commitment she thought was fair to the group, and she gracefully bowed out. She brought a new tilt to the group and some cool new songs, and has left her mark in the band's history. Denny, Al, Jeff and Tim all wish her the best in moving forward.
After Sue's announcement, we started putting out feelers for new members, and on August 14, we hit a home run in Stephanie Williams. She is used to playing solo piano/vocals in small dinner settings and was looking for a group to play with that would give her a wider variety of styles to sing and play. We're pleased to have her on board, as she fills the vocal part and brings another chording instrument and sound to the band.
Welcome Stephanie! |

How can we say Thanks to all of our friends, co-workers and relatives that came out to see us in Ypsilanti for a cool drink and some hot music!? We had a good-sized crowd, interest from the bar patrons in the pool room and the original bar, and even dipped into our 4th set for a few extra tunes to top off the night. It was a true party, as we had a slightly inebriated patron who was disco-moon-walkin' until he got fresh with another male patron who let his gangsta pants meet the floor. There were others dancing to Heat Wave and other Motown favorites we played, and a sing-along to The Rolling Stones' Honky Tonk Woman (or it could have been the arresting rhythms of the cow-bell player?)
Sue's friend was there to take pictures, so hopefully we'll be able to put a sampling up on this page soon for all to see.
We're already looking forward to another party at the Tap Room as well as other Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti venues!

We followed an excellent opening set by The Martindales, at the Tap
Room Annex in Ypsilanti. "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy", "Dr. Feelgood" and
"Chevrolet" won cheers and clapping from our musical audience. Yes,
much of the audience came with cases for the open mic night! We had a
great time, and got a real good vibe from the Tap Room Annex.
"Musician Friendly" is a pretty good approximation.
The Tap Room Annex occupies the old Louis' Cafe. The original stained glass windows, and woodwork are fully intact but was opened up only on March 1 after extensive remodelling. The original Tap Room building dates back to 1840! Look for the classic neon sign out front on the corner of Washington Street and Michigan Avenue in downtown Ypsilanti. The Tap Room Annex is the new "hot" place in Ypsilanti.

Newsflash! Soul Kitchen will be appearing at the Tap Room Annex on April 25, 2009 from 9:30-1:30! No Cover Charge

The new band debut's at the Monroe Boat Club in Monroe, Michigan to a packed house that cheered us on all the way past midnight (our stop time!). The event was a fund-raising event for the Junior Sailors program, and they were selling yummy sloppy joes and fixin's. It was a great first gig, and while it wasn't perfect, got us past a critical hurdle. We took notes and will be polishing in the coming weeks. The pictures below were taken by Jeff, while on stage. We squeezed in OK, and it was tight, but we had a good time!

The NEW Soul Kitchen Blues Band takes the stage at an informal Open Mic night at Thirsty's in Dundee, Michigan. Sue and the guys gave the crowd a taste of things to come...
