The Soul Active Project was founded in 2009 by one of London's top personal trainers, Duncan Edwards, with the intention of dragging the world of health and fitness out of the 80's and making it more relevant to the current generation of gym-goers.
"Fitness is easy, it always has been easy, we just need to personalise. The days of the giant commercial fitness machine is over. In todays society we understand the value of choices, and whilst so understanding of this in our work and social life, we somehow continue to forget this in relation to this most important of all things - our health." "What works for one obviously won't necessarily work for another. Harder is not always better." "I want to exercise the way that I enjoy, listening to the music that inspires, whilst eating the food that make me feel energised and content." "Exercise is simple. We just need to start to make the right decisions to help us find exactly the place for a successful rewarding exercise regime within and relevant to our already busy and demanding lives." "Soul Active Project is designed for the active generation who are looking for more from their work-out and more from their training. We understand there is a demand for a higher level of service within the industry and therefore founded the project to offer this high standard within the fields that we excel - Training, motivation, music and knowledge." Weight Loss Journey 2010 Chapter 3 - Janaury 2010 - Nutrition
When people think about losing weight they almost immediately think of one thing, nutrition, or diet as it’s more commonly known. People in general have a very simplistic view of weight loss and believe that in relation to reaching their goals they can only achieve results by forcibly eating less and training more. On a very basic level, ‘the eat less, train more’ formula is true, though unfortunately sometimes we forget we are just human beings, just normal people with inherent healthy appetites, and let’s face it, if we haven’t put a healthy limit on them yet, it’s more than likely that it's not going to happen now. When we decide to simply eat less, we’re not being realistic, we’re not looking at five years down the line, we’re more than likely looking five days down the line, at best. As I’ve mentioned before, anyone reading this planning on using pure willpower as their number one tool for success is almost certainly on a pathway to defeat. Whilst there is no perfect all-encompassing diet for everyone, and whilst we are dealing with differing metabolic types and genetics it is almost impossible to find a sure fire path to success that suits one and all. There is one rule however, one rule that if followed without failure by any of my clients, past or present, that has resulted in a 100% hit rate in terms of weight loss, short and long term. We’ve heard this rule thousands of times, yet for some reason, in this world of illogical and far reaching diets and weight loss fads, this simple formula is almost always overlooked. ‘Little and often.’ If you are serious about weight loss, if you truly, truly do want to shift those pounds, you are simply wasting your time if you ignore this rule. Anything else you do in terms of diet or exercise will be completely irrelevant if you don’t follow this mantra. Let’s face it, if you want to look like an Olympic athlete, or at least like the idea of being able to slip into one of those all in one lycra suits, why not eat like an Olympic athlete. Every January in gyms all around the world you can spot people who haven’t exercised for at least a year, training with all the gear, and same intensity of a world beater, so why, when it comes to diet do they ignore the simple, proven techniques of our well drilled champions. We should all know the science. The more times we eat a day, the faster our metabolism becomes, using the food more efficiently, whilst on the other hand, the less times we eat, our body will go into starvation mode, slowing our metabolism down to almost zero, storing any food we take in, no matter how small, as fat, our fuel. It is a very simple concept, though I guarantee it will work. As we eat more often, ideally every three hours, our metabolism will speed up, turning us into a fat burning machine, fuelling us throughout the day, plus in turn, with the knowledge that our next meal is just around the corner, giving us a greater chance of resisting the temptation to gouge, cramming our body full to it’s limits with food, stuffing ourselves like a Christmas turkey as a reward for making it through the week fuelled only by lettuce and celery. If you look at any successful sportsman or woman in today’s society, they will follow a diet like this. They want to make sure they take in all the necessary nutrients required so they are fuelled throughout the day to compete in whatever activity it is they compete in. Millions of dollars are invested each year into their sports, they are highly motivated people, so ideal case studies, and thousands of hours have gone into researching their nutrition so that they can perform day in day out, at the top of their game, complete with a body that only mortal man can dream of. If it works for them, why are you so arrogant to think you know better? And that’s the problem. We are all old skool, we all think we know the best way, will power, starve, will power. Just a little more will power, that’s all we need. The problem is that despite failing various times before, we still keep trying to lose weight the same way we have always done, using the same methods, the same concepts, just changing locations and street names. Let me ask you this. If last year you found a brick wall between yourself and your weight loss goal and you tried to run through the wall to reach this goal, though just found yourself knocked to the floor, would you simply get up this year and try and run through the wall again. You wouldn’t think ‘Last year it didn’t work, so this year I’m going to run even harder’. You wouldn’t think ‘Last year it didn’t work, so maybe this year if I run at the wall with special compression shorts on, or over pronating x-training shoes,’ or even ‘run at a different wall or from a different direction'. No, that would be stupid, if it’s not working, it’s not working, and let me tell you, if you’re reading this, it’s just not working. Atkins diet, low carb diet, sugar free diet, the soup diet, no carbs after eight etc, etc...It's just not working. Last time round we talked about goals, so in terms of diet, the only possible food goal you need to start off with is... ‘For 1 month I will without fail eat a small meal 5 to 6 times a day every three hours, consisting of food that I know includes nutrients my body needs’ No matter what you think, no matter what role you play in life, this goal is achievable for you. I deal with high powered successful people everyday, working long hours in stressful jobs, though if they come to me and say they’ve missed a meal for whatever reason, that they had no choice, I call them a liar. You always have a choice. Nothing in your day, apart from some extreme circumstances, is totally unexpected. If someone calls an emergency meeting, I almost guarantee this is not totally unexpected, in fact I’m guessing, if someone calls an emergency meeting, you work in a job whereby someone calls emergency meetings all the time, and therefore, that’s not unexpected, that’s predictable, and if that’s predictable, we need to be prepared, we need to be ready. I do not believe that you do not have time to eat a banana and pot of yoghurt before any meeting. I do not believe that you cannot find time to eat a small wholemeal tuna roll, pre-packaged the night before, stored either on you, or close by to you, every three hours throughout the day. I do not believe this. Anyone who truly, truly thinks they are unable to stick to this concept please feel free to write to me at and I will be more than happy to find a solution for you, though, make sure you have a good story, make sure you have thought every option through. This diet is achievable; this diet is do-able. In today’s society we have become obsessed with the tiny irrelevant things and taken our eye off the big picture. We don’t need to spend time choosing between the salmon and the steak, we don’t need to find ourselves in a conundrum about the salad or new potatoes, we don’t need to drop carbs or shirk away from fats or all that other nonsense we pin our hopes on. You don't get any points for that stuff, you won't get any congratulations from me for that, and you definately don't deserve any treat as a reward for making insignificant choices. All the food mentioned is fine - steak, chicken, potatoes, pasta, all this food is great. It all has carbs, nutrients, protein and fat, the things we need to keep us strong and healthy as our exercise regime and diet progresses. The things that stop us getting sick or tired, developing colds or flu’s, or other tell tale signs of bad diets. All we need to do, is simply cut our portions in half, cut that plate down, eat good nutritious food that we enjoy every three hours, stick to it, don’t make excuses, and in return see that metabolism go through the roof, and the weight fall off. The best way to ensure you stick to the plan is to complete a food diary, recording the type and amount of food every time you eat. Simply click on the link below and download the sample 'SoulActive Food Diary'. If you can roughly plan your meals ahead of time, being aware of when you are going to need to eat, taking care of the portion sizes and noting down the results on the supplied diary, for atleast one week, you will see remarkable results. Click on this link, download the plan, hold it together for 7 days, and I promise you, you will never look at weight loss the same way again. http://www.mediafire.com/?dhk2j5jwkny
