Banks:

NOTE: In Grenada, non-citizens cannot open a checking account until they have lived in the country for at least 6 months. Plan on opening a savings account and paying with cash for most transactions (it is very easy to get bank certified checks for large expenses like rent). Because it is also difficult for non-citizens to open joint accounts here, you may choose to have the account solely in your student's name.  Make sure the student brings their welcome letter from SGU to the bank with them (along with their school ID and passport) on the day they plan to open the account.

Post Office:

NOTE: The main post office (Burn's Point) is located in St. George's on the main road, just past the shipping docks on the way to the Carenage. You will need to go here to pick up any packages that are too large for your campus mailbox, and packages that may contain dutiable items. You will get a package notification slip in your campus mailbox to let you know when a package is waiting for you at the Post Office.  Make sure you bring a good amount of cash to the Post Office to pay any duties that may be assessed.

Electronics and Computer Repair:

The Computer Storeelectronics and computer supplies are quite expensive in Grenada, because of the large amount of taxes that retailers have to pay to ship things in. But, the folks here will be happy to help you, even if they have to do a special order for parts from the States. Their repair staff is also quite good.

Hardware & Plumbing Supplies:

NOTE: Hardware and plumbing supplies sometimes sell out quickly (especially at the start of a semester, and it can take weeks or months for some parts to be shipped in and get restocked. Local Gyms:

NOTE: Gyms in Grenada are fantastic, because not only do they have reasonable monthly fees and student rates, you can also choose to suspend your membership for weeks or months (if you leave the island at the end of the semester).  Upon returning,  you can reactivate your membership with no extra fees or penalties.

Both of the gyms listed here allow you to choose whether to pay for full access to the entire gym (weights, cardio machines, and classes), or just for partial access. You can also choose to just pay per class or a for one full day at the gym so that you can “try before you buy”.

Pharmacies:

NOTE: If you have a prescription to be filled, don't wait until the last minute! Sometimes certain drugs will either be out-of-stock or need to be special ordered. Also, just like hardware stores on the island, in a pinch you might have to go to more than one pharmacy to fill a prescription, if one pharmacy doesn't have what you need right away.

I have always had good luck with the quality of service and supply available at Gittens. So I would advise anyone to try them first.
