Gas Stations

There is a popular Texaco located on Maurice Bishop highway, about 1/2 mile from SGU, which has full-service attendants, a car wash / wash bay, convenience store with some auto fluids for sale, and a free air pump for tires.  Their hours of operation are M -Th: 7am - 9pm, F-Sat: 7am - 10pm, and Sun and Holidays: 7am - 7pm.  There are a few other gas stations on the way to down town St. George's, however, the terrain can be hilly and sometimes traffic can occur so if you notice your car is on empty, it's best to fill up when you can.

Simple Maintenance

For alignments, oil changes, and check ups,  you can either call a mechanic or take your vehicle to a car dealership. If you are renting your car, most likely, your rental company will take care of the vehicle's upkeep so if an issue arises, give them a call first.

Mechanics

In Grenada, you can drive your vehicle to a repair garage or you can call a mechanic who will make a house-call and come to you.
Each SO seems to find their own mechanic and favorite way of doing things.  As a general rule, car repair and maintenance are less expensive here than "back home," however every mechanic charges differently so be sure to ask. Some names you might hear of, that other SOs have trusted with their vehicles, are
  • Rawle: 407.4483  (makes house calls)
  • Phil: 414.6397  (located on Maurice Bishop Highway)
  • Robert Miller: 444.2220  (located at Prestige on Maurice Bishop Highway)
  • Romel Griffith: 439.3428  (located in Tempe about a 15 minute drive from SGU)

Car
Dealerships

Maurice Bishop Highway sports several car dealerships.  Huggins Nissan, Prestige Motors BMW and Subaru, and McIntyre Mazda.  You can go to the dealerships for basic vehicle upkeep such as alignments, oil changes, check-ups, etc. and they should charge you a fair price.

New
Parts

In Grenada, a hardware store can double as auto parts carrier.  ACE Hardware, located on an SGU bus route on Maurice Bishop Highway, carries many basic parts like fuses, filters, bulbs, etc.  For more specific parts, you will have to track down a particular dealer, if you are trying to do a repair yourself.

Used
Parts

There is a local junk yard in Westerhall where you might have some luck locating the part you need.  Their number is 415.7933 and the owner's name is Daniel Also, every now and then a student will be selling parts.  You can always have your partner place a "wanted" ad on SGU POST where other students can read it.

Considerations

Your vehicle may be brand new or may be several decades old.  If your car is 10+ years old, you may have an issue locating parts.  Some SOs have had their family or friends get a part for them from home and ship it here.

Discount
Cards

Some repair establishments offer Student Discount Cards for which you can sign up.   One such retailer is Spice Isle Tyres off of Maurice Bishop who gives students a 10% discount on tire purchases. If you are having your car serviced, be sure to ask if that shop offers student discounts.
