Kid Safe Sites & Browsers

There are thousands of websites for kids, but which ones are safe? What do they offer? As a parent or guardian
what should we look for? Ask these questions, and check out these things.
 
 

·         What will my child be doing on this sites?

·         Read the terms of service or terms of use on each website.

·         Below are several safe websites for kids age 7 and under.

·         Make sure there is an “About Me” page, read it and be satisfied with what you see. 

·         Is there a "Contact Us” page in case we have comments or issues.

·         Not always available, but a “Testimonial” page that gives you feedback and possible someone to contact.

 
Many of these sites offer good parents sections, so please take the time to read them.

Kidzui, Internet for kids

KidZui is a free Web browser, search engine and online playground for kids 3-12. Kids have the freedom to learn,

KidZui eliminates the need for parents to constantly watch over their kids' shoulder, when they are online. Parents

know what their kids are doing online and they can connect by sharing content. KidZui sends a weekly email that

Quintura for Kids

This browser is whimsical and colorful. This search engine is based on Yahoo Kids. Kids can type in their keyword

or click a word in the cloud above the search box.

 

 

Ask for Kids
Ask for Kids was formerly known as Ask Jeeves for Kids. This web browser is kid-friendly and gives kids a way to

search online by asking questions. They claim age-appropriate feature content and filtering. This browser helps

kids with homework, answers their “why?” questions and is fast, fun and easy to use. If you click on the parents link,

they state their Editorial Policy, which states they only use G-rated pages and written specifically for children.

 

Awesome Library

This type of web browser is has lots of resources and information for kids. This browser is definitely set up in library

style. Good categories and descriptions for everyone from Teachers to Teens and Parents, etc.

 


 

Kid Friendly Web Sites

 

Ziggity Zoom 

Awesome site. This site is for kids ages 2 to 8 and offers a multitude of variety for online fun for your kids. Your kids
can play games, color pictures, read and listen to stories and have a wide variety of characters. Please check out their
parents section. This company put together a great site for kids.
 

PBSkids / Arthur

Arthur offers kids Postcards from You, Fern’s Poetry Club and Go George Go. This site offers kids music, video clips,

games, recipes and Postcards from You. This site has Buster’s Travels, Go George Go with games, coloring pages

and trading cards and Fern’s Poetry Club, where your child can write a poem, read poems or just find out the definition

of a poem. This site is published by the producers of Arthur and Marc Brown.

 

Fun Brain 

Has games for all ages, but there is a Playground where you pick a character on the playground and play the game for

that intended character. I found this entertaining and some of the characters easy enough for under 7. FunBrain has

Flash Arcades, Web Books and Comics. You can click on find a Game by Age and Click “K” it has listed all kinds of

games for Age 6 and under. Remember these games are parent assisted.

 

Learning Planet
Great website for ages Preschool to Kindergarten and higher. But for this purpose we are focusing on Websites for

Ages 7 and under. This is a very good website for preschoolers - teaching them how to alphabetize in order and

counting. Really good educational games for preschoolers matching colors, shapes, letters, numbers, etc
