 Information about H1N1 flu

Below are some simple measures you can use to control the spread of colds and flu.
If you would like to print a reminder you can put on your refigerator or bulletin board  - Click Here

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.

  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
  • Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
  • Stay home if you are sick until at least 24 hours after you no longer have a fever (100°F or 37.8°C) or signs of a fever (without the use of a fever-reducing medicine, such as Tylenol®). Read detailed information about how long to stay away from others.
  • Follow public health advice regarding school closures, avoiding crowds and other social distancing measures.

100 Books Every High School Student Should Read

This is a seriously smart idea

When preparing for college, one of the smartest moves a high schooler can make is to read, read, read. This is especially true of literary classics. Many of the books covered on this list also surface in university literature classes, so high school students can facilitate their college workloads by knowing the classics before they become required reading.

Drug Abuse

Inhalants are breathable chemical vapors that produce psychoactive (mind-altering) effects. These vapors are contained in common products found right in the home and are among the most popular and deadly substances kids abuse. Although young people are exposed to volatile solvents and other inhalants everyday, many do not think of these "inhalable" substances as drugs because most of the products were never meant to be used in that way.

A report from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and the National Inhalant Prevention Coalition (NIPC) reveals that 17% of kids ages 12-17 started using drugs by sniffing household products. What’s especially frightening is that inhalant abuse can result in death from the very first use.
