Jerome Solves Your Computer Problems

I have fixed people's computer problems for six years.  Nearly all problems are solved in an hour and a half. I make house calls in the Indianapolis metro area.  While you are deciding whether to contact me, add some of these programs to make your Windows computer perform better. All programs are freeware or shareware and can be downloaded from the Internet.

Antivirus Protection/Firewall

Comodo Internet Security is freeware. Download at

personalfirewall.comodo.com/download_firewall.html

Browsers

Use more than one browser at the same time. I use these three.

Google Chrome, the newest browser. Download this freeware from

www.google.com/chrome

Mozilla Firefox. Download this freeware at www.mozilla.com/firefox/

Safari, originally created for the Mac, looks real slick. Download this freeware from www.apple.com/safari/download/

Fix Disc Errors

Easy Cleaner is freeware and checks the registry for problems. Only use the registry cleaner. Avoid the rest of the choices. Download at personal.inet.fi/business/toniarts/ecleane.htm

Eusing Free Registry Cleaner also checks the registry. It is great to use several cleaners because one gets some problems and the others get the rest. Download this freeware from

www.eusing.com/free_registry_cleaner/registry_cleaner.htm

TuneUp Utilities fixes registry and applications problems. If you get ambitious, use TuneUp to tweak your computer. Download this shareware from www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/System-Tweak/TuneUp-Utilities.shtml

Remove Spyware

Malwarebytes

Download this freeware from malwarebytes.org/

Spybot

Download this freeware from www.download.com/3000-2144-10122137.html

If you lack time to download and install these programs, for only $75.00 I will add them to your computer and then show you how to use each program.

Two final suggestions, run Chkdsk, a Microsoft program included with Windows 2000, XP and Vista that performs a comprehensive check of your hard drive's files and folders then corrects any malfunctions, and system file checker also from Microsoft.

Here is how to run Chkdsk ...

Click twice on My Computer.
Click once on Local Disk (C:).
Right click.
Click on Properties, Tools, Check Now (This is underneath and to the right of Error-Checking).
There are two check disk options, Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. Click on each of the white boxes. This will place a black check mark in both boxes. Then a long question is asked. Respond by clicking on Yes. Now restart the computer and a thorough error-checking will begin. This is a good time to have a meal or run some errands since the process can take a long time to complete.

System File Checker restores broken parts of the Windows operating system.

How To Run System File Checker

Make sure your original copy of XP, Vista or 7 rests in the CD drive.

Click on Start

Click on All Programs/Accessories/Command Prompt

Type sfc /scannow

Press the Enter key

Although System File Checker takes a long time to complete, other tasks can be completed at the same time.
