The Belgian ASAP Truck Rally Team has made a commitment to participate at the Breslau Rally 2012 with a fully electric rally truck. To achieve this ecological challenge, the Solar Rally Truck organisation has been set-up. This team brings together innovative minds that want to create sustainable and ecological innovations in rally’s such as the Breslau.
The Belgian ASAP Truck Rally Team has been participating at the Breslau Rally for 4 years. A few years back, participants Joris Peumans and Frank Van Dooren decided to face a new challenge: the creation of an ecologically sound rally truck that will drive electrically. To realise this dream, they gathered a team of innovative engineers and specialists under the name Solar Rally Truck.
e-Unimog Prototype 1 On the 18th of June, the official ‘lift-off’ for the e-Unimog Prototype 1 was given in the Belgian city of Genk. This first prototype will start from anexisting Mercedes Unimog U416 frame to guarantee a positive homologation at the rally. Joris Peumans: “To keep the project feasible, we will focus on keeping the whole original drivetrain operational (gearbox, axles and transferboxes). The OM352 diesel engine will be replaced by an electric motor. Beside this the team will add the electric steering and a battery management system to manage 1000kg of batteries. The battery bank will be loaded by a small range extender. This prototype must be ready for competition at next year’s Breslau edition.”
Separate competition? The ASAP Truck Rally team would like the Breslau organization to introduce a separate competition for green rally cars and trucks or eg to lower the entrance fee for green teams. By assimilating innovative and green technologies into a competitive environment, the rally-sport will show it’s taking responsibility towards the environment. Furthermore, the rally-sport is an ideal platform to test new and sustainable materials and techniques in extreme conditions. This will create goodwill towards the sport. ASAP Truck Rally Team wants to pioneer in this domain. |

Yes, our SRT project is still alive. Today we founded the company Rally2Green cvba. With this legal vehicle Solar Rally Truck will get out of the premature phase. Now it will become real business. The base capital of Rally2Green is funded by all the founding-partners. Rally2Green will focus on 3 projects: 1. a spinn-off based on eco-friendly glasfibre replacing product, 2. a spinn-off bases on augmented reality and 3. of course the realisation of the first proto-type of the Solar Rally Truck. More information in the next monts. |

Great news. We found a believer from the media sector: Christophe Duckers - Managing Director from TransportMedia. They will make a preposition for spreading content about SRT.

Today I had a telephone contact with Bart Lannoo. He's consultant for Punch Powertrain but also gives consulting in global automotive sport especially for a buggy team. He participated 4 times in the Dakar rally and was very excited about our project. He announced some other teams are also working on EV's and guesses ASO will organise a seperate challenge for the EV's in a few years. This news is unofficial ...
I suggested to come with a plan in what way he can help us and to get back in touch after march 17th. |

Our engineer Koen Geurts suggested to construct the body pannels from a new ecological Fibre. The material has very interesting specifications and is completly cradle-to-cradle. This eco and bio product is also used for building hight-tech bikes ... who knows, in near future also in the Solar Rally Truck.

Waw ... unbelievable to see an enormous motivated selection of brains: engineers, communication specialists, sales, technical, ... thanks to all the people for their very valuable time.
We worked through lots of agenda points. In summary we will focus on: - the partcipation to our first trade show: MoveIt (concept scheme + guerillia action) - working on the valuable business contacts from Innovation Centre Limburg, making the valorisation tangible - writing the 1-minute presentation

Today we had a very good meeting with Herm Lux and Miguel Dhaens. They were very enthousiastic about SRT and want to give all the available support concerning knowledge sharing and bringing us in contact with relations from them. Miguel Dhaens is the kind of engineer we need. Worked on similar electric/battery projects in F1 ! Our dream is to get him focused on our project :-) To be continued. More information on our 4rd teammeeting on friday 26/2.
