Roleplaying Mode

All underlined texts are hyperlinks.

Roleplaying mode is a personal option which allows you to close off all out of character interactions and so become truly immersed in the reality of the environment.
On this page I will attempt to convey the information I have gathered about how roleplaying mode will affect the technical aspect of your playing. For it is indeed a rather different experience than you may be used to.
Beyond the purely technical, however, it is all about how you yourself believe and act within the MUD.

First of all one must know the commands which allow one to access the feature.
options personal roleplaying = on will activate the mode.

options personal roleplaying = off will deactivate the mode.
I strongly recommend setting these to an alias, for there will be times when you will wish to switch quickly between them.

Communication
Talker and club channels function as normal.
Tells, remotes and remote souls can neither be sent nor recieved over distance.
Remote and targetted souls will work providing the target is within the same room as you. Tell will not.
All group commands work as normal.

Your hitpoint monitor, score and score brief will be converted into descriptive sentences rather than displaying the numeric accounts depicted in normal mode. The sentences are more vague than simple numbers and it is therefore a good idea to switch to normal mode when engaging in a particularly difficult combat situation.
For the most part the displayed information is more than adequate to let you know how you are doing and you should be able to continue combat as normal without disabling roleplay.
Also remember that only your current gp and hp levels are displayed, not your maximum.

The information displayed is often similar to that which is displayed by the group status commands, but the messages are not the same and it is important to know the difference.
Score, monitor, health and group status all give depictions of ones status, but the messages are different in each case.

As to comparing the message received to exactly how many hp or gp you have remaining; that is based on percentage.
Where 100% would be full gp or full of energy.
I do not have the tools or the patience to calculate exactly what percentage gives what message so you will alas have to work that out for yourself if you consider it important.  Should you do so, I would be most greatful if you could mail me the results so that I might display them here for everyones benefit.

Skills
The skills command when used in roleplaying mode will display neither your bonus nor your skill level.
Instead it will inform you of your proficiency in each skill.
teach bonus <skill> is not affected by roleplaying mode.

Now that languages are referenced by the languages command; they are no longer affected by Roleplaying Mode.
In case they ever do flip back to being referenced from skills though:

With grateful thanks to:
Hagrid, Kefka, Jacquel, Jeanie and Stern.
Additional thanks to Pit and Calagan.

Special mention must go to Hirad who went to some effort to deduce the skill proficiency ranges.
I unfortunately missed the attachment on his email and deleted it before properly reading it, meaning all his useful information was never seen.
He did go to the effort to find out though and so I give him credit here.
His email was also instrumental in pointing out a couple of important errors with my original assumptions.
Thankyou Hirad.
