Elanor's Guide to the Disc

Home Decorating

Furniture
Furniture will save over reboots whether it is placed or not, but looks a bit of a shambles if just left on the floor.
Placed furniture will be visable as part of the room description.
Items placed in wardrobes/chests/cupboards/etc or on tables will be saved over reboots.
This method is NOT as secure as a vault.
Shelves, tables and bookcases especially have a tendency to not save their contents, especially in cluttered homes.

Walls and Flooring
To paint you need a paintbrush and a tin of paint. One tin contains enough paint for one wall/ceiling/floor.
To wallpaper you need a paintbrush, a roll of wallpaper and a pot of glue. One roll and one pot per wall.
To lay carpet you need to hire the carpet layer for the region. They will not enter portals or leave the city.
Flooring contractors always have rotating stock, so if they don't have what you're after today, they may tomorrow.

To hire a contracter you must track them down; hire them; lead them to your house and the appriate room and then ask them to lay the floor with whatever you have chosen. You pay when they start the work.
It takes a few minutes to lay the new floor, during which time you have bare floorboards and dust.
When you have finished with the contractor, please remember to dismiss them so that others may use their services.
