The Faculty
This is the club for all wizards of at least 10 days of age.
Its primary purpose is to further magical knowledge and learning.
Founded by Griffon, in the days before we had Senior Wizards,
the clubs stated purpose was to be the democratically organised wizards guild. This central goal is no longer neccessary, but the institutions created within the club remain important services. The departments listed below are specific, ongoing projects that you may get involved with if you wish.
Most members though simply take advantage of the channel, prestige and usefulness of being a member of the Faculty.
The Wibble Fund
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Wibble Fund is the Unseen University scholarship program.
It is administered by the hands and feet of the Wibble Board and overseen by the Chancellor and Dean of College.
Grants can be awarded from between $50 and $200 Ankh-Morpork dollars.
The size of the grant being dependent on the interest values, depth, originality and quality of the application.
Applications are essentially an in character letter telling the board a little about the person involved and what makes them worthy of the grant.
For more information please refer to the Wibble Fund information page.
The Apprenticeship Scheme
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mostly a roleplaying opportunity, the scheme does provide scope for general learning as well.
Young wizards who apply to be an apprentice will be paired up with an experienced mage who will instruct them on various aspects of magic and the disc.
Anyone under Guild Level 100 is able to become an apprentice and anyone over that level may apply to be a tutor. Applications should be made directly to the Dean of Liberal Studies.
More information is available at:
The Experimentation Team
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Experimentation Team, when the Dean manages to form one, conducts systematic experiments into all aspects of magic.
There hasn't really been a formal team for years now, but magical experimentation is still one of Faculty's most important focuses.
Research includes damage capabilities and bonus requirements of spells.
Bonus requirements, damage ratios and whatnots of artifacts.
The exact effects of thaumic levels on spells at differing levels.
And anything else which provides clear and useful data which will make the world of magic more clearly understood.
Research Grants are available if proof of intent can be adquately shown.
However it is more common to provide financial reinbursement or reward for effort.
If you are conducting dangerous research and are killed as a result;
Faculty will pay back the cost of the life (within reason) as long as we are satisfied with the evidence.
Rewards of $500, $1000 and $2000 are available for completed research if you submit the results and a finacial reward request via mail to the Chancellor and Dean of Experimentation.
All research results should also be posted to the Wizards Board.
