Elanor's Guide to the Disc

Magical Artifacts

Magical artifacts are items that have certain magical properties that can be used.
Magical artefacts come in a number of different forms, each working in a unique way.
What they have in common is a limited number of charges, the capacity to be recharged, a consumption of gp to use and a skillcheck.
Damaging artifacts are PK checked.

Rings

Magic.items.held.staff

Magic.items.held.wand

Magic.items.worn.ring

invoke <staff> [number]

zap <item> with <wand>

zap <wand> at <item> [number]

twist <ring> [number]

Must be holding it to invoke it.

When you invoke a staff it will instantly cast a spell on all viable targets in the room.

Must be holding it to zap with it.

Affects only the targetted object or person.

Must be wearing it to twist it.

Only affects the wearer.

Rods

Talismans

Recharging

Magic.items.held.rod

Magic.items.worn.talisman

invoke <rod>

Not to be confused with Faith Rods, which are a very different thing.

Must be holding it to invoke it.

The only magical rod currently in game is the runic wrench in the Sto Lat guild which is used to fix a specific machine.

It does not FCI as an artifact, is not rechargable as far as I know and has about 11 charges.

The only object which currently uses this skill is the spell-scroll cases available from the Sto Lat guild.

Broomsticks, crystal balls, fully Deluded items and a few other things are magical talismans, but they have nothing to do with the talisman skill.

There is also a taliswoman available to adventurers from Gennie Applebottom in Ankh-Morpork which is good for one trip to Granny Weatherwax’s cottage and back.

Brooms

Magic.items.held.broom | Magic.methods.mental.channeling | adventuring.direction

fuel broom with <number> gp

shake broom

record <number> [as <whatever>] on broom

recall from broom

fly to <number/person> on broom

Broomsticks can only be used by witches and they can only carry one person.

Broomsticks can store a maximum of 600gp and consume 200gp with each flight.

Broomsticks can only land and take off outdoors.

Flying the broom successfully requires the broom skill and it is much harder to fly when it is dark. Fireflies will not help with this because they can not keep up.

Most commands will not work in the flight room.

Direction skill is related to the likelihood of flying to the wrong location (misflight).

Misflights are also (most probably) affected by broom skill.

Misflights always land you on top of a random outdoor player.

You can fly to any player or named NPC as long as they are outside.

If they move while you are in flight the likelihood of misflight is greatly increased.

Recall lists stored locations and record stores them.

Your channeling bonus determines how many gp you can add at a time.

Try to add more than your skills allow and a lot of the energy will miss the tank and pollute the environment. “this is how beautiful sunsets are made”

Shaking the broom allows you to tell if you have enough fuel for 1, 2 or 3 trips.

If you move around to much in the air or run out of fuel you will crash and break your legs.

FTF may prevent this, it may not.  It does save you when falling from the flight room, but it hasn’t been tested on a broom.
