Movie "Tropic Thunder" Initiates R-Word Campaign

In the wake of the movie “Tropic Thunder,” Special Olympics has led a movement to ban the use of the “r-word” and to educate the general public on the hurt that the use of this derogatory term causes to our population. Special Olympics has launched a new “r-word” campaign, which includes the Web site www.r-word.org and a national television PSA including Indiana’s own Global Messenger, Jessica Crook of Cass County.

As a part of this campaign, and in an effort to target the audience that most commonly uses the r-word as a part of their daily vernacular, Special Olympics Indiana has created a newspaper ad, that we hope will be run in high school newspapers around the state of Indiana.

If you have a connection with the school system and may be able to get an ad placed in the school newspaper, please contact Amanda Personett, Public Relations and Marketing Coordinator for the ad materials.
