About the club ...

Sodbury Cycle-Sport is a relatively young club formed in late 2001 in the expanding Chipping Sodbury & Yate conurbation in South Gloucestershire, approximately 13mls north-east of the centre of Bristol. Previously, the nearest cycling clubs were all based in greater Bristol, and a couple of riders living in this area saw the potential in starting a club with strong local roots, to hopefully attract into the sport some of the many resident triathletes and commuter cyclists.

A first priority was to establish a club base, and the development of the club house facility at Yate Outdoor Sports Centre (YOSC) presented the ideal opportunity for us.  This has been our base for a number of years, for part of 2010-11 we moved to Yate Leisure Centre, but now we meet regularly at the Cross Hands Hotel, which is also our TT HQ.

We also developed a close relationship with a local cycle shop, Terry's Cycles, Yate, and they been one of our two sponsors until late 2006.  Our second sponsor has been ME Nelson & Sons, a butchers based in Chipping Sodbury. One of the sons, Alex, has been involved on and off with the sport since his youth, and relatively recently ran his own small team, appropriately named Banger Racing.  On hearing of the formation of Sodbury Cycle-Sport, his interest in the sport was rekindled and he joined us both as a rider and a sponsor.

Since its formation, the club's membership has remained fairly stable, and although our early triathlete membership has drifted away, this has been replaced by a combination of 'new' cyclists and retired racers returning to the sport.  As well as having a nucleus of sporting cyclists competing in road and circuit races, time trials and on the track, we also organise a club rides programme for those not attracted by the lure of competition.
