Solid Waste

The Socorro County Solid Waste department is headed by Director Michael Jojola, who has served the county for over 25 years. The Department maintains transfer stations throughout the County. Each transfer station accepts household waste, which is transfered to the Socorro Landfill. The landfill is operated by the City of of Socorro.

 Department Resources

Currently, transfer stations only receive household trash. Construction waste and yard cuttings must be taken to the nearest landfill.

Transfer Station Hours of Operation

In order to ensure environmental compliance and area cleanliness, transfer stations are closed during periods of high-winds. Please call to verify if a station has been closed.

Polvadera Transfer Station: Wednesday - Sunday, 9 AM - 5 PM (open through the noon hour)

La Joya Transfer Station: Wednesday - Sunday, 9 AM - 5 PM (open during the noon hour)

Veguita Transfer Station: Wednesday - Sunday, 9 AM - 5 PM (open during the noon hour)

San Antonio Transfer Station: Wednesday - Sunday, 9 AM - 5 PM (open during the noon hour)

Payment Information

All residences in Socorro County must pay an $80.00 annual solid waste fee. This fee only covers the cost of the joint-entity landfill operation in Socorro, it does not cover the cost of any solid waste department operations or transfer stations.

Customers may pay the fee at the Solid Waste office located at 198 Neel Avenue or at the office of the County Treasurer located at 200 Church Street. The Solid Waste office ONLY ACCEPTS CHECKS. All cash and credit card payments must be made at the office of the County Treasurer.
