Zebra Cobra (Naja nigricollis nigricinta)

This Cobra is a subspecies of the Black-Necked Spitting Cobra (Naja nigricollis). The name Zebra Cobra comes from the stripes on the dorsal side.

Like the Black-Necked Spitting Cobra, this subspecies also has the ability to spit its venom. The venom is a mixture of cytotoxic and neurotoxic. But it is largely cytotoxic, and bites can result in tissue damage and loss of limbs. It is very dangerous to humans.

This snake can reach lengths of 1.5 meters. The distribution of this subspecies streches from Southern Angola all through the Namib Desert to Central Namibia.

Ventral scales are 192-226. This snake is oviparous and lay up to 22 eggs.
