Photo added by Dave Honiball (Found on the roadside just outside Naboomspruit) BLIND SNAKES Typhlopidae All Blind Snakes are harmless. They do not have any teeth or fangs on the lower jaw as they do not need them. They feed mainly on termites and other small insects. All of them are burrowing snakes and well adapted therefore. They have cylindrical bodies and small heads. The eyes are really small as you can see in the photograph. The scales are bunched tightly together and forms a smooth and glossy body. Blind Snakes are all simular in appearance, with their small heads and very short tails. From a distance it would be very hard to tell which end is which. -- Louis van Niekerk For more info and pics about this snake and other snakes of South Africa, please visit my Facebook group at: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=96621376042 |
