bio

I currently work somewhat behind the scenes at Google News. Before that, I reported for the Half Moon Bay Review, a community weekly located 25 miles south of San Francisco on the California coast.

My reporting has just earned two individual nods and a share of one staff nomination from the 2008 California Newspaper Publishers Association Better Newspaper Awards. Overall, the Review earned 16 CNPA Awards this year, including General Excellence.

I've been trained as a reporter and new media specialist; I also have a background in literary and cultural studies. My career has included spells of editing, writing, and marketing within the magazine and book publishing industries.

Above all, I'm interested in stories: how life happens and how people try to make sense of it. I've lived, studied, and/or worked in Detroit, rural Ohio, Virginia, Boston and Silicon Valley.

Please feel free to nose around this site or contact me.
