Book Project Grade 7

Project Due Date -  Thursday, September 8, 2011

You will create a layered sandwich of paper describing various elements of the novel Schooled.  You will receive the papers to use for this project, but you will need to neatly cut them out before stapling and handing in.

1.    Top layer – bread slice (white, or you could color this light brown); this should include the title, author, your name, and a small graphic relating to the book.

2.    Meat layer – (pink)   This should include a one paragraph summary of the novel.  Complete sentences must be used.

3.    Lettuce (green)   Describe the setting using full sentences. Remember that the setting of a novel includes the time and place.

4.    Tomato (color it light red, or use red paper)   Describe the main character using full sentences. Include character traits, not just physical description.

5.    Mayonnaise (pale yellow or white)   Give your opinion of this novel, again using complete sentences. Be sure to also discuss your reasons for this opinion.

6.    Cheese (goldenrod)    Describe your favorite part of this novel using full sentences.  Also tell why this is your favorite part.

7.    Bottom slice of bread (inside)   Describe the resolution of the novel. How do the main conflicts get resolved? Give your opinion of this resolution also.

Arrange all of the layers together and staple at the corner.  Make sure that your staple has 'caught' each layer of the sandwich--don't allow any layer to fall out!

Be sure to write neatly or type and glue on the information for each layer.  If students lost the parts of the sandwich they were given or if they wish to make a layers a big larger, they may remake them; however, please don't make the sandwich big. In the attachments section below, students may download the instructions and/or rubric.
