Sussex-Wantage Summer Reading

Book Project Grade 7

~SUMMER BOOK CELEBRATION~

It’s in (and on) the BAG

Due Date:  Friday, September 4, 2009
Please return the book and the project on this date

After you read Schooled, follow the directions below to complete your project.  You will need to use a paper supermarket bag or large gift bag.

·        On the front of the bag-

a scene from the novel (drawn or computer generate, but NOT a picture of the cover)

the title of the novel

the author

your name (first and last)

·        On the back and the sides-

the main characters with a brief description of each

the supporting characters with a brief description of each

the setting

the conflict- type and brief explanation

the resolution

These will be TYPED on separate sheets of paper & then attached to bag using glue.  Be sure to use the back and the sides; you don’t want blanks on the bag.

·        Inside the bag-

at least SIX artifacts that represent significant events in the novel

a well-written explanation for each artifact.  Each explanation will be at least 4-6 sentences in length.

Your explanations must include the name of the artifact, the reason for choosing it, and the specific details from the story (direct quote from novel or description of scene) that show its significance.  These explanations should be typed!  Explanations need to be attached to artifacts somehow.

J Things to keep in mind as you read the novel:

·         Take notes of ideas as you read- list possible items to include in the bag.

·         Include page numbers in your notes so you can easily locate the item’s importance.

·         You will be thinking “outside the box”.  This means you will be making assumptions about the character and their habits.   Not all ideas will jump out at you from the book; you will need to THINK!

·         Handmade artifacts (clay, other craft materials, etc) may be used or size-appropriate real ones.  Drawn items are not acceptable.  Think 3D, not one dimensional!  J
