Away to Cirencester/Mintey

Mintey 34 - Mary's 5

Big lack of players today with only 6 attending (Big thanks to these 6) so we had a mixed team for both sides and had a really good game.
Today was great several times we broke through the gain line only to loose the ball with a missed timed pass or lost the ball in the ruck or maul.
The rucking and the mauling was great, but then we just stood around looking at the ball and we were to slow to deal with it.
Moving on the game was great to watch and some good lessons had been learnt.

Home to Cardiff Quinn's

Mary's 17 - Cardiff Quinn's 37

Despite a fearless effort from St Mary’s Girls Rugby team, Cardiff Quinn’s girls won the day with Mary’s losing 17 - 37.

Cardiff Quinn’s showed us today what a well drilled defence they have with good communication.

The only way Mary’s could try and beat this line was by moving the ball and looking for breaks. Quinn’s took advantage of this and forced Mary’s to knock on and lose the ball under pressure.

With good rucking skills from Cardiff Quinn’s they started to get the ball through Mary’s defence and score tries.

It took a while for us to counter their rucking and mauling and by the end of the game it was getting 50/50.

Mary’s first try came from Hope making a nice run to draw the opposition and create space, and then with a nice pass to Emma, Emma was able to show Quinn’s a clean pair of heels all the way to the try line. With Zoe converting this put Mary’s on the score

board.

The second try for Mary’s came within seconds of the second half restart, Mary’s put Quinn’s under pressure from the kick and with quick turnover ball Mary’s moved the ball wide for Ellie to score a nice try in the corner. The angle was just too much for Zoe to convert.

The third try came from Emma, A Quinn’s clearance kick down the middle of the pitch was caught by Emma who then sliced her way through all comers to score a try under the post with Zoe just missing the conversion.

It was a great game to watch today with all players putting 100% into the game, looking forward to the next games as you are improving with each game.

Thanks to Cardiff Quinn’s for today’s game and to the ref, Rob for giving us a nice flowing game.

Away to Worcester

Worcester 46 - Mary's 0

Great start of the season even though we lost. It was our first game against Worcester and they made us more than welcome.

Some good big tackles being made today which the Worcester girls felt, The score line does not show how well you all played today.

Great stuff from Amy, Hope and Jasmin for your first game.

Hope you all enjoyed your first game of the season.                 (Click on the image for more pictures)
