The Lady Panthers have their first pro soccer all-star now that Kelley O'Hara has been named to the 2010 WPS All-Star Team. Kelley is a 2006 graduate of SMHS and led our Lady Panthers to their first previous State Championship that year. Now Kelley stars as a forward for the FC Gold Pride in San Jose, CA She will represent FC Gold Pride as an All-Star alongside teammates Marta, Shannon Boxx, Christine Sinclair and Rachel Buehler.
This has been a phenomenal year for Kelley. Her Stanford University team reached the NCAA Finals, she was named PAC-10 Player Of The Year, NSCAA Collegiate Scholar Athlete of the Year, First-Team All-American and capped off her college career as the MAC Hermann Trophy winner for the best college player in the nation. Then she was selected as the #3 pick in the WPS draft and later was selected as a member of the US Women's National Team. Congratulations to Kelley and the O'Hara family!
"It is such an honor to be recognized with the top women's soccer players in the world," said O'Hara. "I'm thrilled to be able to go back to Georgia and see my family and friends and play in front of them again. It has been a while since I've been there, so I can't wait."
If you want to get out and see Kelley and all the other WPS All-Stars this year, you're in luck because the game will be played at Kennesaw State University Stadium northwest of Atlanta on Wednesday, June 30 at 8pm.
