Lowe's Home Improvements on Facebook has posted a status saying they will be in Paterson, NJ donating cleaning supplies and food to families impacted by Hurricane Irene.  They have also offered to donate additional supplies (the number to be determined by the number of likes they receive in the next 24 hours).  To help, go to http://www.facebook.com/lowes and like their page.  Go to their wall and find their post and like it!   How often can you help someone without spending anything but a little bit of time?  Tell your friends!   Thanks, Sheryl   P.S.  For me, the next time I need to make a purchase...I will be remembering the businesses who reached out to ...

  • Farmers Prepare for Irene You can hear the corn pickers running down the road we live on tonight. Farmers are busily trying to get in their corn crop just in case Irene makes her appearance this weekend. Listening to the reports, there is a good chance we will be getting something but seeing as how there isn't a whole lot we can do about the weather - we'll be waiting around to see. It's going to be a long night of hard work for them, hope it pays off. As for me, I'm praying we get just enough rain from Irene to give our farmers a good crop and then in the areas where the wildfires are burning - enough that the ...

  • Angels Among Us? Now, to many of you this might not seem like news.  It was news to me.  I was asked once what the Ruritans did.  I said, "I know they have the softball field, playground, tennis courts and a pool that I got tossed out of as a teen because my parents were not members and we lived too close.  I know they have dinners every now and again.  They have meetings..."  I honestly did not know the answer to the question or what their mission in our town really was.   After being asked to help with Bella's benefit, I quickly learned what the Ruritan's did by watching them in action first hand.  The first thing I learned was ...

  • 8/19/11 Bella's Special Day Arrives Bella and her family were surrounded on this day by people who loved them. They wore happy smiles as they worked. My heart was singing for my little friend, Bella, she was going to have a good day.  The front door to the Community Building smiled at you when you walked up.  Bella's Bows and wreathes in Bella's deep pink and purple greeted you at the entrance. Bella and her brother opened gifts from Lori Burgess - a Baby Alive doll for Bella and a truck for Carson. Carson shared his truck with his friend, Cam Cam had been there since early that morning with his grandfather, Harvey Byrd, Jr. helping to prepare for the big event. Becky Turner ...

  • 8/19/11 Bella's Blessings - Where Did It Start? When you meet Bella Coren, you fall in love with her.  You can't help it.  One lady did just that and then another too!  Both had the same thought in mind.  They saw her, they loved her and started thinking about how they could help.   At the Severn-Pendleton Ruritan Club meeting, Rita McKeown patiently waited for the right moment to mention having a benefit for Bella.  While she waited, Lori Burgess spoke up and said they needed to do something to help Bella.  Both woman had the same little girl slip right into their hearts.  The Ruritan Club all agreed and with team work, their benefit would become a success.   Meetings were held to make plans.  Community volunteers ...

Just a Thought

  • Just a thought and then another one follows...
  • Sunshine, Smiles, Tiny Clouds and Rain Hope you are all finding sunshine and smiles in your day!  Thinking about that you know, the rain is good too.  Without the rain, plants can't grow.  The farmers aren't happy, that makes me sad.  When it rains, the outdoor sports fans aren't too happy because of game delays.  I understand there needs to be a balance between the rain and the sunshine.     Have you ever watched the plants after a long, hot summer day when a thunder squall rolls through.  The winds starts blowing the plants this way and that in it's breeze, sometimes it isn't a gentle one either!  The sky clouds over, the raindrops begin to fall and the winds die down ...
