Saragih's Own Wall Decor


Wall decor but not painting. The first of its kind, specially native to the exotic Island of Bali,
Indonesia.  Air brushes and painting are known best for wall decor but these  products are totally different.

The themes described in the motives represent the harmony and simplicity of our life just like the  twin geckos, flowers, yin and yan. Twin geckos represent life, and flowers simplify beauty. And so on.

These works of art involve various steps, like sketching, drawing, installing and framing, all done by hand, by the imaginative artists. Sketching is the most important part and involves drawing too.  The artist needs to know each and every detail of the local Balinese and Indonesian culture, art, traditions and lifestyles that need to be presented in these images. This is done on the background of cloths.

Installing involves placing  the plate beads on the cloths, following the motif lines drawn by the Sketcher. Round plate beads are of plastic and very good to install on the cloths and in the nights they sparkle with a life of their own. Finally,  the image is mounted in a wooden carved frame, especially carved by the Balinese Designer. 
 
 I am involved in all processes, and also get my co-artists to add finishing touches before the
images are marketed in the international markets. The whole exercise is completed with bare hands, and the artists are glad to earn some simple frugal earnings out of this, knowing that they contributed to popularizing their Balinese art around the world.
 
The decor plates in the pictures are of the size 85 x 62 x 3 cm.  But we can design and complete plates of any sizes. Mass production is possible, but since they are made by hand, each piece of work would represent a unique work of art.
