TENNIS LADDER

A TENNIS LADDER is a ranking of all participants. Rankings can start out fairly random but over time winners move up and eventually people of similar ability are located near each other on the ladder. Each week members would play in one match and based on those results a new ranking is established. From this we may find out who is interested in forming a team but for those who want maximum flexibility, they can leave it at this.
Attached are the guidelines I wrote up. I imagine they will be revised a few times as we discover flaws in the system.

Here is my hard sell of the idea:
·         Can play games against people of similar ability.
·         If you are competitive, you will probably move up and play a lot against others who are competitive.
·         If you are more casual, you will probably settle down and play with others who don’t worry about winning every time.
·         Each weeks game will be at a time that works for you in your opponent. No fixed time you have to block out.
·         Expand the number of people you play against, meet new neighbors.
·         Virtually free (challengers are expected to provide the balls used for the game.)
And two disclaimers
·         There will be a disclaimer saying we aren’t responsible when you break your arm jumping over the net.
·         You have to share with other ladder members some way to contact you (phone # or email)

#1 FAQ- Do men and women play against each other? Answer- Yes, but not always. It depends on the rankings. Once things settle out there will probably be a few advanced men who challenge the women in middle slots and perhaps a few women will step their game down a notch to play against the men.

#2 FAQ- When do we start? Answer- If response is overwhelming, I’d like to start right away. More likely we will start the 19th of August (a week is Wed-Wed) and smooth out the edges for a few weeks and then get serious after Labor Day.

Until someone else wants it, I will be the administrator. If you would like to participate, please email me atdavid.hagan@hp.com I will make initial rankings based on the order of response. If you want to reply early but not have the pressure of a high ranking then write, “please set my ranking  at about the X percentile”. 10th percentile would be starting near the bottom, 90% percentile would be starting near the top.

I hope to hear from you and the dozens of people you forward this to.

*I am open to the idea of including Beckingham, FoxFire and other neighborhoods in 23120 (Woodlake is just TOO BIG). But I think we should start in the neighborhood and expand only if most people want to do so.
